The color
Think the ink of a twilight horizon, the deep blue of lapis lazuli stone, the colour of sea glass at its most saturated, the bold strokes of cobalt on a Japanese woodblock print. Cerulean is unafraid — a shade that commands attention without effort. In bright light it reads as a vivid cerulean-cobalt; in dim or candlelight it deepens into a moody, almost indigo navy.
As intensely pigmented as it is, Cerulean blends beautifully. Use a clean brush to soften the edges and it transitions seamlessly into neutrals and skin tones. A natural foil for warm copper and burnt orange for an electric contrast palette, or paired with cool silvers and smoky greys for a graphic, monochromatic blue look. It makes brown eyes golden, hazel eyes green, and blue eyes impossibly vivid.
